Collaborating to find elegant structural solutions to complex design issues
Nabih Youssef Associates Structural Engineers (NYA) provides specialized structural and earthquake engineering consulting services. Established in 1989 by Nabih Youssef, NYA has grown to be an internationally recognized and respected structural engineering firm with offices in Los Angeles, San Francisco, Orange County, San Diego, the Southeastern United States, Hawaii, Canada, India, and South Korea. The firm’s structural engineers are recognized experts in earthquake engineering and are among the world’s leaders in the field of performance based seismic design.
NYA has engineered high rise buildings, medical centers, educational and athletic facilities, and has conducted seismic evaluations, historical preservations, and seismic strengthening of major landmark structures. NYA’s significant contribution to the development of earthquake engineering codes, standards, and value-engineering concepts is coupled with a commitment to engineering quality and performance that has given the firm the ability to provide clients with cost-effective, sustainable solutions, and resilient structures.
The firm appreciates nature, and takes its value into account when developing solutions. NYA also seeks to develop solutions that reflect the wisdom of the design of nature.
NYA is proud to be recognized for excellence and to contribute to the advancement of the field of Structural Engineering and Performance Based Seismic Design.
Beginning in the early 1990’s, our firm’s founder, Nabih Youssef, co-authored the groundbreaking and founding document of Performance Based Seismic Design (PBSD) titled “Vision 2000.”
Since then, NYA has grown its expertise in PBSD by contributing to the development of all major PBSD documents and guidelines used today, including the PEER Tall Buildings Initiative, the Los Angeles Tall Buildings Structural Design Council Design Guidelines, San Francisco’s Requirements and Guidelines for the Seismic Design of New Tall Buildings using Non-Prescriptive Seismic Design Procedures, and the ASCE 7 design standard.
Advancing theory to practice, we have successfully applied PBSD to numerous award-winning projects including hospitals, mixed-use developments, and civic and institutional buildings in highly seismically active regions.
