PROJECTS > EDUCATIONAL > Pomona College, Smith Campus Center - Claremont, California

Project Details:

During the early 20th Century, Architect Myron Hunt designed the campus of Pomona College using board-formed concrete. One of the project challenges was to not alter the historic board form appearance. This intricate architectural design of the exposed concrete structure required intensive refinement of structural details.

Solution:

To integrate the new Smith Center into the 100-year-old campus aesthetic, it was designed as an exposed, board-formed concrete structure using large, modern panel forms. Walls have unbraced heights of up to 44 feet, and there are several exposed concrete grand stairways.
