Project Description /OverviewGrand Park is 12 acre park located in the Civic Center of downtown Los Angeles. The park encompasses four city blocks, three of which have existing subterranean parking structures. The addition of Grand Park has improved pedestrian access and provides a large venue for Los Angeles events and entertainment. The park upgrades included relocating the garage entrance and exit ramps at Grand Avenue, relocating the Criminal Courts garage ramp at Broadway, renovating the historic fountain, adding administrative offices and elevator access adjacent to the fountain terrace, adding a new cafe; and park services structures, as well as, event lawn and gardens.
This project was a mix of both on grade and built up concrete structures that work together to minimize impact on the adjacent and subterranean existing structures. The new cafe; is a steel moment frame structure with a mat foundation that sits atop of a thin layer of soil, separating the existing parking structure from the new finished surface.
